A unique breed

Nestled between mountains at the crossroads of three protected natural areas—Sierra de Las Nieves National Park, Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, and Los Alcornocales Natural Park—yet just 5 kilometers from the romantic town of Ronda (Málaga province), Algaba de Ronda offers a unique natural haven to unplug and embrace the peaceful serenity of Mediterranean woodland life.

Livestock Breeds

It descends from ancient populations of light- or reddish-coated Iberian pigs that roamed the Andalusian countryside, raised free or semi-free, foraging on natural resources such as pastures, acorns, and agricultural stubble

Its seamless adaptation to the environment gave rise to a hardy, resilient breed, deeply intertwined with traditional farming systems.

Livestock intensification in the 20th century led to its gradual disappearance as more productive and profitable breeds were prioritized.

Currently considered officially extinct, it is in a process of conservation and recovery thanks to a joint effort between the MERAGEM Group of the University of Córdoba, the Agricultural and Livestock Experimental Center (C.E.A.G.) of the Provincial Council of Cádiz, and the Algaba de Ronda Center.

On our estate, the Dorado Gaditano Pig is raised completely free-range within a Mediterranean woodland ecosystem dominated by holm oaks, cork oaks, and gall oaks.

Our farming is 100% organic, relying on natural foraging and certified organic feed whenever needed.

This privileged environment allows for an unhurried, respectful rearing of the animal, yielding meat with exceptional marbling, deep flavor, and a wonderful texture.
