These forces, for instance, brought materials that typically lie tens of kilometers deep up to the surface, resting beneath more recent layers. It is an extraordinary geological story, essential for understanding the landscape and the lives of the people who call this land home.
The themed area at Algaba de Ronda features an Interpretation Hut, showcasing a geological relief model of the Serranía—a unique piece crafted by the renowned, award-winning ceramicist Juan Ramón Gimeno. It is a work of art of great educational value, an extraordinary artisanal creation made inch by inch, blending beauty and scientific accuracy. Nestled in the heart of our Mediterranean forest, this Serranía de Ronda Geology Interpretation Area also features a selection of the region's most captivating rocks, formed across a wide range of eras and processes. A gentle path leads to each of them, inviting you to discover their origins and unique character, observe them up close, and touch them, culminating in an exciting and deeply meaningful experience.
Beyond the great geological interest of this area, its social and cultural dimension is undeniable, as our geological heritage is also woven into the story of human evolution, from prehistory to the present day. We will explore the prominent role stones have always played—and continue to play—and the vital importance of preserving this geological legacy and protecting it from threats. By approaching geology from an environmental perspective, we will come to understand its role in shaping landscapes and creating the diverse soils that, in turn, nurture our local flora and fauna.

Fossils & Geodiversity Workshop
This workshop introduces us to the fascinating world of rocks in the Serranía de Ronda Geology Interpretation Area through identification keys and simple experiments. It is an engaging introduction to the wonderful realm of stones that helps us understand the geography of the land.
Land Art Workshop
Inspired by nature, this activity aims to provide participants with the skills needed to identify plant remains produced by the forest (fallen leaves, pieces of wood, bark, etc.) and create ephemeral yet precious outdoor sculptures and works of art. It is a technique used to raise awareness about human impact on the natural environment.
