Born from pedagogical innovation, scientific rigor, and a deep reverence for the heritage of the Serranía de Ronda, the Ronda Prehistory Science Park has contributed fresh insights to our understanding of the recent prehistory of the southern Iberian Peninsula.
Developed in collaboration with a network of social economy organizations and partnerships with Andalusian and European universities in experimental archaeology, agroecology, and environmental education, today it stands as a space for research and an exceptional open-air classroom, ideally suited for activities rooted in educational innovation to bring history to life.
Nestled in the heart of our estate, among centennial holm oaks, the Ronda Prehistory Science Park is a faithful reconstruction of a prehistoric village as shaped by research into life 5,000 years ago, when the region's first farming and herding communities thrived. Spanning 4,000 square meters, it features a defensive wall system, domestic spaces, huts, and productive areas dedicated to livestock, pottery, flint knapping, basketry, tools, and everyday household items. These have been brought to life not only through archaeological documentation, but also through experimental archaeology and ethnoarchaeology—invaluable approaches for filling in the gaps where traditional excavation records leave off.
Led by knowledgeable guides, this tour allows each visitor to discover firsthand the habitat and ways of life of the earliest farming communities. It is a pedagogical and research-based alternative that truly enriches the teaching and learning experience—a wonderful living archaeological laboratory for all ages.
To round off the visit and delve deeper into prehistory, we offer hands-on educational workshops where students can try their hand at ancestral techniques like pottery making and cave painting, or explore the investigative methods archaeologists use to understand prehistoric societies.

Ceramics Workshop
A hands-on workshop crafting prehistoric ceramic vessels or engraved slate plaques. An engaging educational activity exploring the transformation of raw clay into pottery through natural material processing, hand-shaping, decorating, and air-drying.
Cave Painting Workshop
An activity focused on discovering prehistoric graphic art through the study of ancient materials and artistic techniques. Participants will craft their own pieces of art, guided step-by-step through traditional methods.
Archaeological Excavation Workshop
An activity focused on learning archaeological research methods to better understand prehistoric societies, their ways of life, and their relationship with the surrounding natural habitat.
Land Art Workshop
Inspired by nature, this activity aims to provide participants with the skills needed to identify plant remains produced by the forest (fallen leaves, pieces of wood, bark, etc.) and create ephemeral yet precious outdoor sculptures and works of art. It is a technique used to raise awareness about human impact on the natural environment.
Traditional Crafts Workshop
For centuries, the rural world has developed artisanal crafts capable of meeting fundamental daily needs using local resources, creating beautiful items cherished for their usefulness—such as woven hampers, baskets, woollen blankets, ceramic vessels, soaps, and botanical essences. These sustainable creations have minimal to no environmental impact and shape our identity as part of a living heritage that is now on the verge of disappearing. This workshop seeks to keep this ancestral knowledge alive, introducing you to traditional crafting techniques, the qualities of raw natural materials, and the joy of creating by hand.
